Volleyball Chosen Third in G-MAC North Division Poll

NORTH CANTON, Ohio - The annual Great Midwest Volleyball Preseason Coaches Poll was released on Wednesday (August 10) as the 2022 season is only weeks away.

As decided by the head coaches of the conference, Walsh was chosen to finish third in the North Division as they received one of 13 first place votes. The Cavaliers rank in third behind the defending conference champion Hillsdale and the Findlay Oilers, who also earned a first-place vote.

Johnnie Legrair, in his first season as head coach, returns ten players from the 2021 squad that went 17-11 overall and 11-5 in the conference. Walsh qualified for the G-MAC Tournament for the fifth straight year last season and fell short of a fifth consecutive semifinal appearance. Overall, the Cavaliers will see the following returns... the top two in points, three of the top five in kills and service aces, four of the top six in digs and blocks. Olivia Maczuzak is back after leading the team in kills, kills per set and points. Olivia Kearns is also returning as the team leader in assists, service aces (tied for 3rd in the G-MAC) and digs.

Walsh opens the 2022 season at the Fairmont State Falcon Classic in just 15 days on August 25th. The Cavaliers will open with matches against Salem, Pitt.-Johnstown, the host Fairmont State and Slippery Rock.
