Cavaliers Sweep Edinboro in Spring Opener, 7-0

NORTH CANTON, Ohio - The Walsh Cavaliers women's tennis team, ranked 10th in the ITA Midwest Region, opened the 2020 portion of the schedule with a 7-0 win over the Edinboro Fighting Scots oat North Canton Racquet Club on Saturday (Feb. 1). 

Walsh improved to 2-0 on the season, dispatching the Fighting Scots in short order. 

Mercedes Fernandez and Nicole Beidacki were victorious 6-1 in the first doubles match before the duo of Katharina Razum and Sofia Khairutdinova clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 victory in the second doubles slot.

Fernandez kicked off singles play with a 6-3, 6-2 first singles win over Lily Ann Schmidt. Razum followed with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Torye Calleja in the second singles hole. Drasch and Beidacki were 6-0, 6-0 straight set winners in third and fifth singles, respectively over Morgan Bender and Lauren Chiacchia. Maria Kacalova defeated Anna Zak 6-3, 6-0 in fourth singles and Khairutdinova was a winner by default in the final match of the day. 

The Cavaliers will host Lewis on Friday (feb. 7) at 6:00 PM at North Canton Racquet Club.
