Erin Smith Elevated to Head Women's Lacrosse Coach

NORTH CANTON, Ohio – Interim Vice President of Athletics/Athletic Director Jason Fautas announced the elevation of Erin Smith as the new head women's lacrosse coach on Tuesday (August 2).

"We are excited to have Erin Smith as the next head coach of the Walsh University Women's Lacrosse program," said Fautas. "Erin has been a key part of the foundation and the program's recent success as an assistant, and I feel that she will continue that as head coach. Her familiarity with the team will allow her to build the program on the field, in the classroom, and the community."

Smith takes the helm of the two-time, defending Great Midwest Champions after working as an assistant coach here for the last four seasons. She will be the third head coach in the program's 11 seasons.

"I want to thank Jason Fautas, Dr. Timothy Collins and the search committee for their faith in me to be the next leader of the Walsh University women's lacrosse program," stated Smith. "The team has seen so much success in my four years as an assistant and I aim to continue that growth in my new role. I am beyond grateful for this opportunity and to have the privilege to continue working with such an amazing group of student-athletes."

She was a part of a coaching staff that went 37-19 in the last four seasons, along with an 26-9 G-MAC mark. The Cavaliers appeared in three Great Midwest tournaments and have picked up back-to-back regular season and tournament titles.

Since her start at Walsh, she has coached six individual award winners and 23 All-Conference honorees. 59 players have been awarded Academic All-Conference and three of them were named IWLCA Honor Roll members in 2021.

Prior to her time at Walsh, Smith was an assistant coach at Queens College in 2018.

Her athletic career spanned from 2013 to 2017 and included stops at Dowling College and New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) in both lacrosse and cross country. At Dowling, she was a two-year starter while helping the team to a 2014 East Coast Conference Championship. In her junior year (2016), she was named First Team All-ECC, Second Team All-North Region, and Third Team IWLCA All-American.

After Dowling closed, she concluded her career at NYIT in 2017. In that year, she was named First Team All-East Coast Conference (ECC), ECC Defender of the Year, First Team All-Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC), First Team All-North Region, and Second Team IWLCA All-American.

Smith earned her B.S. in Business Management from NYIT in 2017 after studying Sports Management at Dowling. She followed up with an MBA from Walsh in 2021.
