(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – The Walsh women's lacrosse team kept rolling with a 20-12 victory over visiting Ursuline at Vasco Field on a chilly Tuesday afternoon. The Cavaliers (6-2) are off to their best start in program history and have now matched their program best for wins in a season with their win over the Arrows (3-4).
Ursuline jumped out to a 6-3 lead in the early goings of the game, but a 5-0 run sparked by Aly Jajack and capped by Sam Paulson game Walsh an 8-6 lead with 6:26 to go in the first half. It was a lead the Cavs would not relinquish.
Jenny Spragg scored near the end of the half while Amanda Hodel and Maria Nobile added one each at the start of the second to continue the run to 8-1 and give Walsh an 11-7 lead. The Arrows didn't quit, however, as they scored four of the next six with two man-down scores to climb within two with 16:12 to go.
At that time, Walsh's defense stepped up and thwarted the Arrows' attack and limited them to one goal the rest of the way while closing the game with the final six scores.
Jajack led the attack with five goals and two assists while Lane Brunkala scored five goals as well. Nobile also scored five points on three goals and two assists.
Defensively Mikaela Faus picked up the win with eight saves in just over 35 minutes of action. Nobile also picked up six draws and caused two turnovers.
The Cavs will go for win No. 7 when they head to West Virginia for a date with Davis & Elkins on Saturday. Opening draw is scheduled for 1 p.m.
