#18 Cavaliers End Season in Close Sweet 16 Battle, 64-61

ASHLAND, Ohio - In a high stakes matchup with the #6 ranked Grand Valley State Lakers for the Midwest Regional title, the #18 Walsh Cavaliers women's basketball team battled to the very end as the Lakers outlasted the Cavaliers 64-61. 

Walsh's season came to a close in the Sweet 16, the farthest round of any Walsh team in the NCAA era and finished with a record of 28-5 overall. Monday's matchup featured 12 lead changes and four ties with a spot in the Elite 8 on the line. 


  • Sha Carter finished with a team-high 15 points, including 11 points in the fourth quarter. She converted seven of her 17 field goal attempts along with five rebounds, three assists and two steals. 
  • Mayci Sales ended her career with an 11 point, nine rebound effort. 
  • Alyssa Dean added ten points off the bench with a pair of three pointers. 
  • Morgan McMillen hit three pointers for nine points, lifting her over the 1,000 point plateau for her career. 
  • Walsh shot 40% for the game, making 24 of 60 shots and six of 20 three pointers. 


  • Ellie Droste led the Lakers with 19 points on five-of-seven shooting (two-of-two from deep) and seven-of-eight from the free throw line. 
  • Emily Spitzley scored ten points. 
  • Courtney Sharland had a game-high 11 rebounds.
