Balanced Scoring Helps Walsh Past Cardinals

PEPPER PIKE, Ohio - The Walsh University women's basketball team competed in the second day of a G-MAC/GLIAC/GLVC crossover tournament on Sunday (Nov. 18). The Cavaliers defeated the Cardinals of Saginaw Valley State Univeristy (SVSU), 72-67. Sunday's win lifts the Cavaliers to 4-1 early in the season.

Walsh controlled the majority of the game, as SVSU only led once in the contest. The Cavaliers largest lead came with just under six minutes to play in the fourth quarter, with Walsh up 63-39. The Cardinals made a late-game comeback, cutting the lead to only four before Tyler Newkirk split a pair of free throws to bring the final score to 72-67.

A balanced offensive attack was the key to Walsh's victory, as four players reached double-figures. Mayci Sales led with 17 on the day, while Kimmie Borck had her best showing of the season so far with 15 points. Quionche Carter impacted the offensive and defensive end with 13 points, eight rebounds, and three steals. Newkirk rounded out the double-digit scoring with 10 points, all of which came in the fourth quarter.

Aaliah Hill led the Cardinals with 17 points and six rebounds.

Walsh returns home to take on Mercyhurst Wednesday (Nov. 20) at 5:30 pm.
