NORTH CANTON, Ohio - The Walsh University women's basketball team improved to 3-0 after defeating Urbana 99-60 Wednesday (Nov. 13). All five starters scored in double-figures for the Cavaliers, led by Quionche Carter's 25 point performance.
The Blue Knights took the lead early 5-0, but Walsh stole the lead with just under six minutes to play in the first quarter on a layup by Carter and held the lead for the remainder of the contest.
Walsh led 53-26 at half and almost reached the centennial mark as they concluded the contest with 99 points, while holding the Blue Knights to 60.
The Maroon and Gold shot an overall 57.4 percent from the field and an impressive 50 percent from beyond the arc. Walsh held the Blue Knights to 33.3 percent shooting from the field and 22.2 percent from three. The Cavaliers also out rebounded Urbana 45-35.
Carter was 11-17 on the day, while also contributing nine rebounds and five assists. Lexie Scarton followed with 15 points and six rebounds. Mayci Sales contributed 14 points, while pulling down seven boards. Kimmie Borck and Tyler Newkirk rounded out the double-digit scoring with 11 points a piece. Newkirk also dished out five assists, tying Carter for game-high honors.
Tyra James was the only Urbana player to score in double-figures with 13 points on the day.
The Cavs head to Ursuline this Saturday (Nov. 16) and Sunday (Nov. 17) to take on Lindenwood and Saginaw Valley, respectively.
