  • Women's Basketball In Top 25 Nationally in Academics

    The athletic teams at Walsh continue to bring in more academic honors. This time it’s the women’s basketball team that has earned a spot in the national top 25 in academics with a 3.574 team GPA. That was good enough to place them on the 2017-18 WBCA Academic Top 25 Team Honor Rolls announced today by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.

    The Walsh women’s basketball team will be hosting a team shootout on Saturday, June 2, for high school varsity teams. The games will be played in the Cecchini Center with a three-game guarantee and t-shirts for players.
  • Cavs' Tournament Run Ends With Rubber Match Loss To Findlay

    No. 2 Walsh’s chase for a G-MAC championship ended at the hands of No. 3 Findlay in the conference semifinals by a score of 70-59 this evening. The Cavaliers fell to 21-9 while the Oilers improved to 22-6 and the G-MAC Tournament championship against either No. 1 Cedarville or No. 5 Hillsdale.
  • No. 2 Walsh Holds Off No. 7 Kentucky Wesleyan In Quarterfinals

    No. 2 Walsh won its G-MAC Tournament debut with a 75-67 victory over No. 7 Kentucky Wesleyan at the Callan Athletic Center Thursday afternoon. The win gives the Cavaliers (21-8) a spot in the semifinals against the winner of No. 3 Findlay and No. 6 Ohio Dominican.

    Walsh will make its fourth consecutive postseason appearance tomorrow as the No. 2 seed in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament hosted by Cedarville University. The Cavaliers ended the regular season with a record of 20-8 overall and 17-5 in the conference, just a game away from being conference champions. They’ll take on No. 7 seed Kentucky Wesleyan who finished 15-11 overall and 11-11 in league play.
  • Sales Freshman Of The Year, Hochstedler Named To Second Team

    The All-Great Midwest Athletic Conference honors were given out tonight at the pre-tournament banquet this evening and a pair of Walsh Cavaliers have earned accolades. Mayci Sales was named the G-MAC’s Freshman of the Year and placed on the Honorable Mention Team, while senior guard Alex Hochstedler was named to the Second Team.
  • Walsh Secures No. 2 Seed With Win Over Ursuline

    Walsh solidified itself as one of the top seeds in next week’s G-MAC Tournament with an impressive 84-68 victory over Ursuline in the regular season finale on Saturday. The Cavaliers (20-8, 16-6) will be the No. 2 seed, while the Arrows (19-9, 16-6) will take the No. 4 seed behind Findlay.

    The Mayors’ Cup has been returned to the confines of the Cecchini Center after Walsh defeated Malone 67-54 on Senior Day Saturday afternoon. The Cavaliers (18-8, 15-5) remain in the hunt for the conference championship, while the Pioneers (9-15, 7-13) are in a log jam for the final playoff spot in the G-MAC Tournament.

    Walsh dominated from start to finish in a 95-57 victory over Ohio Valley in G-MAC action on the road Tuesday evening. The 38-point difference is the most this season for the Cavaliers (17-8, 14-5) as they swept the season series against the Fighting Scots (0-21, 0-17). It’s also the second-most points they’ve scored this season since a 98-63 win against Alderson Broaddus back on December 2.

    Walsh breezed by Kentucky Wesleyan in its penultimate home game of the regular season by a score of 84-53 on Saturday afternoon. The Cavaliers improved to 16-8 overall and 13-5 in the G-MAC, while the Panthers fell to 13-10 and 9-10 in the same categories.
  • Hot Shooting Helps Walsh Clinch G-MAC Tournament Bid

    In its first season in the G-MAC, Walsh clinched a berth in the conference tournament with an 81-65 victory over Trevecca on Thursday evening. The Cavaliers (15-8, 12-5) have now clinched a spot in the postseason for the fourth consecutive season. The win against the Trojans (8-16, 6-12) was also the Cavaliers’ third-straight win against an opponent they lost to earlier in the season.

    The magic number is now one for the Walsh women’s basketball team as it defeated Findlay by a score of 77-73. With the win, the Cavaliers are now 14-8 overall, 11-5 in the conference, and need just one more win to clinch a berth in the 2018 G-MAC tournament.

    Strong second and third quarters helped Walsh stave off Davis & Elkins by a score of 67-61 at the McDonnell Center on Saturday afternoon. The Cavaliers (12-7, 9-4) moved into a fourth place tie in the G-MAC with the win over the Senators (6-13, 4-11).

    A second-half surge helped Walsh defeat rival Malone XX-XX in the first meeting between the two rivals this season. The Cavaliers (10-7, 7-4) were down 34-30 to the Pioneers (7-9, 5-7) at the half, but used a 19-8 surge in the third quarter to take and hold onto the lead for the remainder of the game.

    The Christmas break didn’t hurt Walsh one bit as it thumped visiting Cedarville by a score of 76-50 at Alumni Arena on Saturday afternoon. It was the first meeting between the Cavaliers (7-5, 4-2) and the Yellow Jackets (8-3, 3-2) since the 2011-2012 season.

    Solid shooting and a strong defensive effort helped Walsh defeat long-time rival Cedarville 76-50 in its first game back since the Christmas break. The Cavaliers (7-3, 4-2) led from start to finish, but a scrappy Yellow Jacket (6-6, 1-4) squad remained competitive throughout the contest.

    Walsh outlasted a scrappy Ohio Valley squad by a score of 64-48 in the final game before Christmas break Thursday evening. The Cavaliers (6-5, 3-2) jumped back over .500 in their first meeting with the Fighting Scots (0-8, 0-3).
