(HILLSDALE, Michigan)- The Walsh Men's Cross Country team finished third overall at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships today hosted by Hillsdale College, securing their spot to compete in the NCAA National Championship.
Placing third out of a field of 32 teams, Walsh seemed to dominate once again. The snow flurries and cold temperatures were no match for our Cavalier runners. Jacob Kernell, Jacob Caniford and Noah Murray all found themselves on the All-Region team after their excellent performance. Kernell placed 16th overall with a race time of 32:19. Caniford followed right behind finishing in the 21st spot with a total run time of 32:24. Rounding out the top three runners for the Cavaliers was Murray with a run time of 32:24 giving him a 25th place finish overall. Mark Hadley finished 29th at 32:43, Jacob Tuner placed 40th with a run time of 33:05 and Ed Walsh rounded out the Cavalier lineup placing 55th overall at 33:31.
To qualify for the National Championship, the top three teams from each regional event receive automatic qualificiation. The remaining teams compete for 10 national at-large bids which are based off of each schools performance overall that season. In addition to the Maroon and Gold, Grand Valley State University and Saginaw Valley State will also be making the trip to compete in the National Championship.
The NCAA National Championship will be held in Pittsburgh at Schenley Park Golf Course Saturday, December 1.
