(PAINESVILLE, Ohio) – Walsh picked up a big win with a clean sheet against Lake Erie by a score of 2-0 at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium on Thursday afternoon. The Cavaliers improve to 3-4 overall and 3-2 in the GLIAC. The Storm falls to 4-3-1 overall and 3-3.
Lake Erie outshot Walsh 24-10, but the shots on goal were even at nine apiece. Of those nine, Sam Mountstephens (Sr., 5-9, Leigh-on-Sea, England/Westcliff) and Chris Lynch (Sr., 6-2, Bellbrook, OH/HS) were able to put the ball in the back of the net for scores.
The first goal came by way of Mountstephense from 10 yards out on the far side on an assist by Bailey Moody (Fr., 6-1, Middleburg Heights, OH/Midpark) at 14:56. It was his second goal of the season. From there Walsh kept the Storm scoreless through halftime.
In the second half, the Cavaliers offense shot out of the gates and were on the attack. The aggressiveness resulted in two corner kicks. The first saw a shot by Chad Dickerhoof (Sr., 6-0, Alliance, OH/Marlington) miss as one of the Storm defenders made the save and deflected the ball out of bounds. The second corner kick was spot on as Dillon Parsons (Jr., 5-9, Mogadore, OH/Archbishop Hoban) found Lynch who headed it in on the set play just under four minutes into the half. It was Lynch's first goal of the season.
Justin Nolan (Sr., 5-11, Medina, OH/Highland) was spectacular in goal with nine saves on 24 shots faced. Six of those saves came in the second half.
The Cavs now return home to host Tiffin for their second home contest of the season. Kick-off with the Dragons is scheduled for 1 p.m.
