(INDIANAPOLIS) – The Great Midwest Athletic Conference has announced its Athletes of the Week and Walsh's Kaitlyn Barber and Mark Hadley have been honored. Barber earned accolades for the women's field section, while Hadley did so in the men's track section.
For Barber, this is a repeat from last week and the third time she's been named this season. Two weeks ago Barber set a new G-MAC record in the pole vault after participating in two meets with a mark of 3.97 meters as the new standard. This week she pushed that mark even higher to an even 4.00 meters at Ashland's Alumni Open. Sher currently ranks No. 5 in the nation and is just .02 meters from being tied for third.
Hadley ran in his third outdoor race of the season at Hillsdale's 52nd edition of the GINA Relays and hit a provo mark in the 5,000 meter run. He came in with a time of 14:30.22 to finish fifth overall and was the second best Division II runner in a Division I caliber field. The time set a new G-MAC record and currently stands at No. 38 in the nation.
The Cavaliers will head back to Hillsdale this week as they take part in the G-MAC Championships. The event starts on Thursday and runs through Saturday.
