Cavs Complete First Day of Raleigh Relays, Berger Qualifies For Nationals

(RALEIGH, N.C.) – The Walsh track & field team traveled to North Carolina for one of the biggest meets of the year regardless of division in the Raleigh Relays. Only a few Cavaliers were in attendance, but they put up some impressive times with automatic and provo marks obtained.

It should come as no surprise that Sarah Berger turned in the top result for the Cavaliers once again. In the 1,500 meter run, the eight-time All-American not only set a new school record with a time of 4:18.67, but she also automatically qualified for the outdoor national championships. She finished eighth in the event, just ahead of Andra Lehotay who placed 14th with a provo time of 4:23.48 which was also a PR for her.

Elsewhere for the women, Brianna Coy won her heat in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 17:22.

In the men's events, Hunter Williams placed in the top 10 in the 400 meters with a time of 48.74 for a new personal record. Lane Knoch ran a 15.27 in the 110 meter hurdles to finish in the top 20. Jacob Kernell finished 18th in the steeplechase with a time of 9:15.07, good enough to hit the provo mark and set a new school record.

The Cavaliers will be back in action tomorrow at the Raleigh Relays and in Cedarville.
