(INDIANAPOLIS) – The Walsh Track & Field team continues to bring in more honors as a pair of Cavaliers were named Great Midwest Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week. Both Kaitlyn Barber and Marcus Myers earned the accolades for field athletes after setting new conference records.
For Barber, her pole vault of 3.75 meter not only let her finish first by a wide margin, but it also passed the NCAA Division II provisional mark and set a new G-MAC record in the process. She now ranks fourth nationally in Division II with 11 individuals recording provisional marks.
Barber was the Great Midwest indoor champion in the event and went on to finish fourth at the NCAA DII Championships in Pittsburg, Kan. Her top height was 3.92m (12'10.25").
On the men's side, Myers continued his impressive year with a provisional mark at the Amy Adams Invitational at Muskingum. In his first outdoor meet, Myers hit the provisional mark and set a new conference record of the hammer throw. His toss of 60.16 meters (197'4") ranks third nationally.
This is Myers' second weekly conference honor of 2017-18 after he was also awarded during the indoor season.
The Cavaliers will be back in action this weekend as they send split squads to the Raleigh Relays in North Carolina as well as Cedarville.
