(CEDARVILLE, Ohio) – Tomorrow has been the day that's been marked on the calendars since well before the season started for Walsh's cross country teams. That's because it's the regional championships, and if all goes well, the Cavaliers will have two teams heading to the national championships.
Both teams are talented enough to qualify. The women are currently ranked No. 10 in the nation and No. 3 in the Midwest region. The men are No. 19 nationally and No. 4 in the Midwest region. The men also won the G-MAC championship while the women were second only to fellow top squad Hillsdale.
In addition to having some impressive athletes such as Sarah Berger and Jacob Kernell line the roster, the championships will be hosted at Cedarville, a place very familiar to the Cavaliers. The women won the All-Ohio Championship there back in September, while the men finished second.
Another strong performance by either team will punch a ticket to the national championships in two weeks at Evansville. The top three teams in each region automatically qualify. While that's a tough accomplishment to achieve in such a loaded region, at-large bids are also given out, but that won't be determined until later in the day.
