(NEW ORLEANS) – After impressive performances at the National Catholic Meet at the University of Notre Dame, both Walsh's men's and women's cross country teams have been ranked fifth in their respective regional poll by the USTFCCCA.
On the men's side, the nationally ranked No. 23 Cavaliers finished second at the National Catholic Meet to solidify its spot at No. 5 in the regional rankings once again this week. Grand Valley State remains locked at the No. 1 spot, while Southern Indiana remained at second. Lewis jumped up a spot from No. 4 to No. 3, while Bellarmine rounded out the top five after being No. 7 last week.
Malone, Wisconsin-Parkside, Hillsdale, Saginaw Valley State, and Michigan Tech completes the top 10 in the region.
The women jumped four spots to No. 5 after being No. 9 last week as a result of their win at the National Catholic Meet. The top five ranking is the highest ever for the Cavaliers.
As it is on the men's side, Grand Valley State also holds a tight lock on the top spot. Hillsdale is second after being No. 5 last week. Southern Indiana and Cedarville each dropped one spot to Nos. 3 and 4, respectively.
The Cavs jumped Northern Michigan, Malone, and Bellarmine for the ranking while those teams fill out the 6-8 spots. Saginaw Valley State jumped up a spot to No. 9, while Ferris State completes the top 10.
The Cavaliers are off this weekend, but will get a chance to gain more ground next week as they head to Cedarville for the All-Ohio Championships.
