(INDIANAPOLIS) – The 2017 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Cross Country Preseason Coaches Poll presented by Under Armour was released today with the Walsh men's and women's teams picked to finish third and fourth, respectively.
On the men's side, the Cavaliers picked up 115 points with two first place votes, just two shy of defending champion Cedarville in second with 117 points and one first place vote. Fellow newcomer Hillsdale was picked to finish first with eight first place votes and 128 points.
Malone was picked behind Walsh in fourth with 111 points and the remaining first place vote. Davis & Elkins rounds out the top five with 83 points.
Findlay (78 pts.), Trevecca Nazarene (71 pts.), Lake Erie (67 pts.) Ohio Dominican (53 pts.), Ohio Valley (49 pts.), Kentucky Wesleyan (34 pts.), and Alderson Broaddus round out the standings.
On the women's side, the Cavs were picked to finish fourth with 130 points. Cedarville was picked to defend its championship with 10 first place votes and 152 points. Hillsdale was picked second with 143 points and two first place votes. Malone was picked third with 136 points and the remaining first place tally.
Trevecca Nazarene rounded out the top five with 107 points. Findlay (103 pts.), Alderson Broaddus (86 pts.), Ohio Dominican (81 pts.), Davis & Elkins (66 pts.), and Ohio Valley (49 pts.) fill out the top 10.
Ursuline and Lake Erie tied each other for the 11th spot with 47 points each, while Kentucky Wesleyan finished the poll with 36 points in 13th.
