Sarah Berger (So., Wadsworth, OH / HS) has been selected as the 2014-15 Female Athlete of the Year. Berger will be recognized on Saturday, September 12 at halftime of the Walsh/Ashland University Football game at Tom Benson Stadium at 12 pm.
Berger excelled in track and field and women's soccer in putting together an unforgettable freshman season. Sarah was a NCAA Division II National Track & Field Individual Qualifier in the 1500m Run, and became Walsh's first GLIAC Champion in track and field in the 1500m. She was selected first-team All-GLIAC.
Her freshman season was dotted with record setting performances, as she set new marks in the following:
Outdoor 1500m (4:31.28) / Outdoor 800m (2:16.82)
Member of Outdoor 4 x 400m Record (3:55.80)
Indoor Mile (5:00.37)
Member of Indoor 4 x 400m Record (3:57.57)
Member of Indoor DMR Record (12:22.49)
Berger was selected to the 2015 USTFCCCA All-National Individual Academic Team, USTFCCCA All-Region (Midwest) Team and the GLIAC All-Academic Team.
On the soccer field she earned second-team All-GLIAC at defender, first-team All-Ohio and Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association NCAA Division 2 honors. Berger started all 18 games at left back, scoring one goal and handing out three assists.
