Men's & Women's XC Both Advance to National Championship

(INDIANAPOLIS)- The NCAA has officially announced all participating teams for the Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships. Thirty-four teams were selected to participate in each championship. 

The Women's team had to wait for confirmation on Monday that they would receive an at large bid to compete in Pittsburgh on December 1st. They will be joining 9 other teams from across the country who were selected at large. Coming off their G-MAC Championship win, the Cavaliers success all season continued from runners Brianna Coy, Andra Lehotay and Claire Robertson at the Midwest Regional. All three of these Cavaliers received All-Region honors at the Midwest Regional Championship in Hillsdale this past weekend. Also lending a hand this season to the Cavalier success was Alexa Leppelmeier and Alyssa Viscounte.

The Men's team secured their spot at the Midwest Regional in Hillsdale with their third place finish. In addition, the Maroon and Gold placed three runners on the All-Region team on the Men's side. Jacob Kernell, Noah Murray and Jacob Caniford all finished within the top 25 this past weekend.  Other notable runners contributing to the Cavalier golden season were Mark Hadley, Jacob Turner, and Ed Walsh.

The National Championship will be held on December 1st in Pittsburgh at Bob O'Conner Golf Course at Schenley Park. Hosting the 2018 National Championship Fall Festival is Clarion University, Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania and SportsPITTSBURGH. The men's race begins at 11 a.m. with the women's race immediately following at 12:15 p.m. This years Championship is a Festival Year. Teams will take part in opening and closing ceremonies, community engagement throughout the week, and have access to a student-athlete lounge to give the teams an Olympic-type setting.  Six championships will be up for grabs as over 900 athletes flock to Pittsburgh for the event to compete for National Championship titles in Men's & Women's Cross Country, Field Hockey, Men's & Women's Soccer and Women's Volleyball.
