(BANNER ELK, N.C.) – The second doomed Walsh in its season opener as it dropped a 16-7 contest to Lees-McRae in non-conference action. The Cavaliers were down by just two goals at the half, but the Bobcats (2-3) defense stepped up in the second half.
The Cavaliers did well to get back into the game after a poor start put them down 5-0 midway through the first half. Aided by a couple of goals from Brianna Moss (Fr., Brunswick, OH/HS), Walsh then scored four of the next five goals to make the score 6-4. Both teams added a goal before the half.
The second half started with a score by Ivy Meloy (Sr., Cuyahoga Falls, OH/HS) just 20 seconds in to make it a one-score game, but the Bobcats dominated the rest of the way and outscored Walsh 9-1.
Tia Tyler (So., Columbus, OH/St. Francis DeSales) played the entire game in goal and made 15 saves on 40 shots faced.
The Cavaliers will attempt to rebound at Franciscan in Steubenville in another non-conference affair this Sunday. The game is scheduled to start at 11 a.m.
