Walsh Succumbs To Storm In Divisional Opener

(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – Four Cavaliers scored in double-figures, but it wasn't enough as Walsh fell to Lake Erie 70-63 in the first game of GLIAC South Division action. The Cavaliers drop even at 8-8 overall and are 4-5 in the GLIAC. The Storm improved to 9-6 overall and 5-5 in the conference.

Jalynn Graham led the quartet with 14 points with a pair of 3-pointers. Dominique Foley followed with 13 points. Brittni Clopton added 12 points and was two rebounds shy of a double-double. Brooklyn Wooten tallied 10 points and also had a pair of treys.

Walsh trailed for most of the game, but rallied to eventually take its first lead of the game after a layup by Shelby Henkel made the score 44-43 with 2:58 to go in the third quarter. From there, the teams exchanged leads on the next three possessions before Clopton concluded the quarter with the final five points to give Walsh a 51-47 lead heading to the fourth.

Midway through the period, layups by Graham and Alex Hochstedler put the Cavs within one at 61-60, but they could get no closer as Lake Erie pushed its lead to two possessions and kept there for the rest of the game.

The Storm was led by Kayla Gabor who scored 28 points and was 11-of-21 from the field.

Walsh outrebounded the Storm 36-33 and forced the majority of its 21 turnovers with 12 steals, but Lake Erie was aided by a 58.3 shooting percentage where it made 28-of-48.

The Cavaliers now head on the road for the next two games. They will take on Hillsdale first this Thursday. Tip-off with the Chargers is set for 6 p.m.
