Walsh Splits Weekend With Win At Tech

(HOUGHTON, Ohio) – Brittni Clopton's block on a last-second 3-point attempt capped a Walsh comeback in a 68-65 win over Michigan Tech Saturday afternoon. It's the first win for the Cavaliers (5-3, 1-1) in five games against the Huskies (4-2, 0-1).

Despite being down for most of the game, Walsh took the lead early in the fourth quarter after a Holly Grober layup and a pair of free throws by Clopton made the score 57-56. The Cavaliers elongated the run to 8-0 after a pair of layups by Alex Hockstedler and Grober gave the Cavs a 61-56 lead with 7:18 to go in regulation.

Michigan Tech answered with the next two field goals to tie the game, but the Huskies wouldn't reclaim the lead as Clopton scored a layup and Grober nailed a 3-pointer sandwiched around a Huskie free throw.

Clopton's block capped a spectacular game that saw the junior score 16 points on 7-of-12 from the floor with 12 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. Jalynn Graham was also impressive with 16 points on 6-of-10 from the field which included all four 3-point attempts. Graham added seven rebounds. Brooklyn Wooten joined the pair in double figures with 11 points.

The trio helped Walsh crash the boards and dominate the Huskies on the glass by a 41-29 margin. The three of them alone contributed for 24 rebounds.

The Cavaliers return now return home to host their only two home games before the Christmas break. They will host Ferris State for the GLIAC home opener this Thursday at 5:30 p.m. before the "Home For The Holidays" alumni event against Grand Valley this Saturday.
