(INDIANAPOLIS) - Another big scoring night from Brooklyn Wooten wasn't enough as Walsh fell to UIndy 57-56 on Sunday afternoon. It was the second consecutive single possession loss to start the season for the Cavaliers. The Greyhounds remained unbeaten at 2-0 on the young season.
Wooten led all players in both points and rebounds with 27 and 11 for her first double-double of the season. Brittni Clopton joined her in double figures with 10 points.
Indianapolis initially took control of the game with a 12-1 run in the second quarter put the hosts up 26-15 with 2:02 left in the frame. It was at that time that Wooten jump started the Cavaliers offense with her first points of the game with a jumper. It sparked a 9-3 run for the Cavs to close the half in which Wooten was responsible for seven of those points.
The momentum carried into the third and Wooten eventually tied the game with a pair of free throws and gave Walsh its first lead since the first quarter as an and-one opportunity gave the Maroon and Gold a 36-33 lead at the 4:04 mark.
From there the teams battled back and forth for the remainder of the game. Wooten tied the game at 56-56 all with 31 seconds to go. After UIndy's Martha Burse hit one of two free throws, Walsh was left with the last possession, but a 3-pointer was blocked and a last second jumper was just off the mark.
The Cavaliers continue their stretch of four-straight road games to start the season against Fairmont State on Wednesday. Tip-off with the Falcons is set 6 p.m.
