  • Cavs Jump Up To No. 6 In Midwest Region

    The Walsh men’s basketball team vaulted three spots to No. 6 in the second week of the Midwest regional rankings released today by the NCAA. The Cavaliers (19-6) picked up two wins last week in regional play in contests at Ohio Valley and at home against rival Malone.

    For the 13th time in both series and Mayors’ Cup history, Walsh defeated Malone 86-75 in a game that had added importance than usual. For the Cavaliers (19-6, 14-5), not only do they keep the hardware awarded to the winner, but they gained a valuable win over the Pioneers (19-8, 12-7) who were ranked ahead of them in the first regional polls.

    The first NCAA Division II men’s basketball regional rankings have come out and Walsh sits ninth in the initial Midwest Regional poll. The top eight teams in each of the eight regions after the conference tournaments advance to the national tournament.

    Six players scored in double-figures and Chandler Vaudrin recorded his nation-leading fourth triple-double as Walsh routed Kentucky Wesleyan 102-68 on Saturday afternoon. The Cavaliers (17-6, 12-5) clinched a berth in next month’s G-MAC tournament with the win over the Panthers (14-13, 8-9).

It was the final game before Christmas for the Cavaliers (6-3, 3-2) and improved to 7-0 all-time against the Fighting Scots (1-5, 0-3).
