(ASHLAND, Ohio) – Trey Fletcher scored 25 points to pass another scoring milestone in the vast history of the men's basketball program, but Walsh still fell on the road to Ashland 78-69. With his 13th point in the game, he passed Bob Boldon to become one of the top five all-time scorers in Cavaliers history.
That point was the first one scored in the second half as Fletcher made the back end of a pair of free throws. He now has 1,707 points in his career and trails 2017 Wall of Fame selection Corey Jones, who has 1,777, for fourth all-time.
The Cavaliers (15-10, 8-10) had trouble getting started in the first half as Ashland (16-8, 11-7) jumped out to an early lead and held off a late rally by the Cavs in the second half. The Eagles shot an impressive 19-of-31 during that first frame and were lethal behind the arc as they made 9-of-12 on triples.
In the second half, Zac Carter scored all 11 of his points, but time ran out on the Maroon and Gold as it cut the deficit back to single digits.
Chandler Vaudrin and Jameel Moore joined the Ironton duo in double-figures with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Vaudrin added 11 rebounds for his second double-double of the season. Moore was two rebounds shy of his first of the season and added five assists in the game.
The Cavs will return to action Saturday in their final road contest of the regular season against Tiffin. Tip-off with the Dragons is set for 3 p.m.
