(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – After opening up the week with a strong defensive win against Ferris State, Walsh now looks to Saturday's contest against Grand Valley State. Tip-off between the Cavaliers (7-1, 2-1) and Lakers (6-4, 2-1) is set for 3 p.m.
The Cavaliers received a fantastic performance from reigning GLIAC Player of the Week Trey Fletcher as he scored 30 points and pulled down 12 rebounds in the win against the Bulldogs. It was his second double-double of the season. Zac Carter joined him in double figures with 19 points.
The duo ranks second and third in the conference in scoring with Carter averaging 21.9 points and Fletcher averaging 20.5 points per game. Fletcher and Chandler Vaudrin lead the team with 7.3 rebounds per game.
Defense was the theme of Thursday's game as the Maroon and Gold limited the Bulldogs to a season-low 59 points. Their previous low was 67 points against Illinois State. Xavier limited Ferris State to 56 points in exhibition play to start the season.
The Cavaliers entered the week with the best field goal percentage in the nation at 52.2 percent.
Grand Valley is led by Luk Ryskamp with 12.1 points per game. Trevin Alexander leads the Lakers in rebounds at 8.7 caroms per game.
