(CANTON, Ohio) – Five players scored in double-figures as Walsh swept another season series from Malone with a 93-74 victory in Osborne Hall Tuesday evening. The Cavaliers (4-0) were playing their southern neighbors just over a week after they defeated the Pioneers (1-3) 93-68 at home.
Zac Carter led the charge with 27 points on 9-of-17 from the field with a pair of 3-pointers, four assists, three rebounds, and a pair of steals. Fifteen of those came in a strong second half in which the Maroon and Gold scored 50 points and shot 64 percent, 16-of-25, from the field.
Chandler Vaudrin, Steven Carpenter, Trey Fletcher, and Jameel Moore all joined him in double-figures. Vaudrin was a rebound shy of a double-double with 15 points and nine boards. Carpenter was nearly perfect from the field as he made 6-of-8 which included both 3-point attempts. He added seven rebounds.
Fletcher added 12 points despite being double-teamed every time he touched the ball. Moore came off the bench to add 10 points and six caroms.
Malone played close for the first eight minutes of the game, but an Andy Brunet layup at the 11:11 mark of the first half sparked a 13-2 run that gave the Cavs a go-ahead boost to make the score 32-20.
The Pioneers occasionally cut the deficit to single digits, but for the majority of the second half, Walsh saw a double-digit lead and led by as many as 21.
Walsh shot over 50 percent from the field (32-of-60) for the second consecutive game. The Cavaliers also dominated the glass with a 40-27 advantage on rebounds.
Nate Sheppard led the Cavaliers with 19 points.
The Cavaliers are off until Saturday when they host Glenville State in a non-conference class. Tip-off with the Pioneers of the Mountain East Conference is set for 3 p.m.
