Former Walsh All-American Ryan McSweeney will play professional baseball after he was drafted by the Gateway Grizzlies in the Frontier League Draft on Tuesday evening in Florence, Kentucky. McSweeney was selected No. 3 overall after the Grizzlies traded the No. 1 pick to the Traverse City Beach Bums.

Janning's Walk-Off Helps Walsh Split With Malone
With a walk-off hit in the nightcap, Walsh was able to split a doubleheader with rival Malone at Biery Stadium Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers (25-14, 14-7) took game one 6-4 before the Cavaliers (20-16, 13-8) prevailed in the second 5-4 in 11 innings.

The first game in the series with Malone didn’t go as well as Walsh had hoped as it fell 7-2 at Biery Stadium on a sunny Friday afternoon. The Cavaliers (19-15, 12-7) and Pioneers (24-13, 13-6) were tied for fourth place in the North Division entering the day and will play two more tomorrow afternoon.

A 13-4 victory over Lake Erie completed the series sweep that started Friday and gave Walsh another important win in the G-MAC’s North Division. The Cavaliers (19-14, 12-6) not only moved two games ahead of the Storm (12-16-1, 10-8), but it also put them in a tie for fourth place with Malone.

Walsh swept Lake Erie in the first part of their split series by scores of 12-5 and 10-3 on a sunny Friday afternoon at Biery Stadium. The Cavaliers (18-14, 11-6) moved one game ahead of the Storm (12-15-1, 10-7) in the divisional standings with a single game scheduled between the two in Painesville on Monday.
