(UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich.) – Matt Iosue hurled another gem to help Walsh split with Saginaw Valley State in GLIAC action on Friday afternoon. The Cavaliers (28-14, 17-9) won game one by a score of 9-0 before the Cardinals (16-26, 10-16) answered with a 12-10 win in game two.
Today Iosue earned his seventh win of the season and struck out nine Cardinals in six innings of work to match a season-best. He scattered just five hits and didn't walk a single batter for the game. He has now one earned on in his last 19 innings and three earned runs in his last 37.1 innings.
He only needed one run, but Luke Caple made sure he had more than that with a three-run home run in the top of the second and an RBI double in the fourth gave Walsh a 4-0 lead. Andrew Stalnaker added three RBIs after a double brought in a run in the fifth and a triple brought in two more in the sixth.
Walsh's offense kept rolling in the second game, but the Cardinals started generating runs and scored three runs in both the sixth and eighth to force the split with a 12-10 win.
Caple once again had a big game with another home run and three more RBI to give him seven on the day. Eric Conner added two home runs as he went 3-for-5 in the game with three RBI.
Both teams will be back in action tomorrow to finish off the series with the doubleheader set to start at 12 p.m.
