(MIDLAND, Mich.) – In a battle between the two top teams in the GLIAC, Walsh was edged in both games of a doubleheader against Northwood by scores of 1-0 and 8-6 in 14 innings. The Cavaliers (27-11, 16-6) will get another crack at the Timberwolves (31-9, 18-4) as they close the series with another twin bill tomorrow.
In the opener, Northwood scored one run in the opening frame and made it hold up the rest of the way. Matt Iosue suffered just his second loss of the season despite an incredible outing that saw him strike out eight and scatter five hits.
In the nightcap, Walsh used the long ball to take a 6-3 lead as Jordan Grubb, Andrew Stalnaker, and Luke Caple all homered for five of the six RBI for Walsh. Stalnaker brought in the other run for Walsh as Marcus Bobb scored during his at-bat in the opening frame.
Northwood tied the game with three runs in the seventh. Both teams had opportunities to take the lead in extra frames, but it wasn't until the Timberwolves hit a walk-off home run in the 14th that anyone could score.
Both teams will meet again tomorrow with first pitch set for 12 p.m.
